Language and Mobilities Across Time and Space

This cluster focuses on the role of language in the construction of social difference and social inequality in multilingual societies, drawing on theoretical frameworks and concepts in the area of sociolinguistics, the sociology of language and linguistic anthropology. In the cluster we explore all aspects of multilingual societies, including language and ethnicity, bilingual communities, language ideologies, linguistic landscapes, language policy and planning, language and the political economy, language and tourism and issues pertaining to indigenous minority languages and migrant communities, in particular 'new speakers' of these languages.
