Dr Ashvin Devasundaram is Lecturer in World Cinema at the Film and Media Studies department, Queen Mary, University of London, which was ranked number one in the UK by the Guardian university league tables 2017. Dr Devasundaram was Creative Director of the first-ever Edinburgh Asian Film Festival (EAFF 2016) held in June at the Filmhouse. EAFF had as its special guest, Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh MP for Ochil and South Perthshire. The festival featured Scottish premieres of films and documentaries from Yemen, Pakistan and India, followed by Q&A discussions with representatives from Oxfam, Muslim Council of Scotland and the University of Glasgow.
Ashvin's monograph India's New Independent Cinema: Rise of the Hybrid has been published in the Routledge Advances in Film Studies series.
